Sawadee Thai Dance Group

Artistic Director: Suchart Kitchoke

Sawadee Thai Dance Group is based in San Francisco, California.  They were founded in 1992 with the goal of promoting Thai classical dance, folk drama and music.  Their dancers are trained by celebrated dance instructor Charin Promrak of the College Department of Fine Arts in Bangkok.

The group also teaches Thai classical dance to interested parties who wants to learn these ancient dance forms.

This dance portrays Prince Suwannaraj as he seeks for the golden peacock, which is a symbol of wealth.  This piece is composed of two classical Thai dances called Kinnaree Ron and Saat Chatri.  Kinnaree Ron portrays the graceful movement of joy of Kinnaree a beautiful mythical creature.  Saat Chatri portrays the celebration of the people for the triumphant return of the prince bringing the priced golden peacock.
