Gadung Kasturi Balinese Dance and Music

Artistic Director: Kompiang Metri-Davis

Gadung Kasturi Balinese Dance and Music was concived by Kompiang Metri-Davies in 1998 and performed solo pieces with Ninik Utami and Rostrease Yates in cultural festivals.  The group has a full gamelan ensemble consisting of 20 musicians and holds classes for adults and children.

Gadung Kasturi literally means “the fragrance of the Gadung flower,” a fragrance of which is incomparable.  Gadung is found in the Balinese jungle and is one of the Kompiang favorite flowers.  As this rare flower is now nearly extinct in Bali, its name has become a symbol for the preservation of traditional Balinese culture.
